LAHORE: The Punjab government is committed to bringing economic growth by harnessing potential of Public Private Partnerships (PPPs). PPP policy should be enshrined in the growth policy. These views were expressed by Member PPP-P&D Board/Head PPP Cell Agha Waqar Javed at a workshop organised by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to formulate a strategy for future assistance.

He added that in the current development paradigm, governments are focusing more on PPPs to uplift the economy and meet infrastructure needs. He apprised the audience that potential exists in Punjab as legal framework is in place. He emphasised the importance of building and improving the public and private sectors. “The government has joined hands with the ADB to enhance PPPs in Punjab and signed a five year (2018-2022) $100 million agreement,” he added. Under this programme, the ADB would provide funding towards the Viability Gap Fund (VGF) and Project Development Facility (PDF).
