DHAKA, May 13 (Xinhua) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Bangladesh in its efforts to achieve a rapid recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, green growth and climate resilience.

ADB Vice President Shixin Chen made the remarks when meeting with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka on May 9.

The Manila-based lender in a statement Friday said that during the meeting, Chen said the ADB will prioritize assistance for least developed country graduation, climate change, and sustainable development goals to help the South Asian country achieve its goal of becoming an upper middle-income country by 2031 and a high-income country by 2041.

"In alignment with the government's policies, ADB's support for Bangladesh will focus on boosting competitiveness, employment, and private sector development; promoting green growth and climate resilience; and strengthening human capital and social protection," said Chen.

During his 6-day visit to Bangladesh from May 8, Chen also met with Bangladesh's Finance Minister and ADB Governor AHM Mustafa Kamal, Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan, and Planning Minister MA Mannan, and held discussions with other senior government officials, development partners, and representatives from the private sector.

In addition, Chen visited the ADB-assisted projects on railway, rural development and power system improvement in the country.
